How many drinks per person?
The calculator starts with 1.2 litres per adult-equivalent guest for a short event and adds 0.35 litres for each hour after two. Children count as 60% for total hydration planning.
Duration and hot-weather adjustments
Warm and hot conditions increase the total by 15% and 30%; outdoor events add 8%. These factors affect water and alcohol-free availability as well as the overall purchase plan.
Wedding drinks example
For a wedding, use the wedding preset, enter the adults who may drink alcohol, and retain sufficient water and alcohol-free alternatives. Bottle counts round upward to purchase units.
Party drinks example
For a family party, the balanced or mostly non-alcoholic preset is a practical starting point. Percentages must total 100% and remain editable.
How the ice estimate works
Ice is based on total beverage volume, with additional allowances for outdoor and hot events. It is shown in kilograms and rounded to 2.5 kg bags.
Calculation methodology and sources
All factors are local, deterministic and versioned. Adult-equivalent, duration, service, drinks, ice and cost-range details are documented in the PortionPal methodology.
